Luxury Interior design for a contemporary family home in Macclesfield, Cheshire
Hillcrest House is a contemporary luxury interior design project in Macclesfield, Cheshire, created by Interiors by Ingrid for much loved family home. The refurbishment transformed the existing interiors into sophisticated yet comfortable home, combining bespoke furniture, statement lighting, natural materials and smart home technology.
The clients approached Interiors by Ingrid to transform the interiors of their much-loved family home in Macclesfield, Cheshire. Originally built around 20 years ago, the house had served the family well, but with their three children having now left home for university, the interiors had begun to feel tired and dated.
The brief was to create a contemporary luxury interior that felt sophisticated yet comfortable, with a simple, elegant colour palette, contemporary furniture and statement lighting. Rather than designing each room in isolation, the aim was to create a cohesive interior scheme throughout the home, with continuity of colour, materials and detailing connecting each space.
The first phase of the project included the living room, snug, master bedroom and en-suite, with every element carefully considered to create a refined and comfortable home tailored to the clients’ lifestyle.
Bespoke Luxury Interiors & Exceptional Materials
Quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail were central to the design. Natural and tactile materials were layered throughout the interiors, including luxurious velvets and chenilles, viscose carpets, specialist wood veneers and large-format Italian porcelain tiles.
A sophisticated, cohesive colour palette flows from room to room, creating a sense of calm and continuity. Bespoke furniture and locally crafted pieces add individuality, while architectural detailing and carefully selected finishes give the interiors a timeless sense of elegance.
Statement lighting plays an important role throughout the house. Sculptural chandeliers and decorative wall lights act as focal points, while architectural lighting highlights key features and creates different atmospheres throughout the day.
The property’s existing smart home automation system was integrated seamlessly into the interior design, allowing the clients to control lighting and automatic window treatments with ease. This combination of technology and design enables the home to adapt effortlessly from bright daytime living to a relaxed evening atmosphere.
Luxury Living Room Design
The light-filled living room was designed as an elegant and welcoming space centred around conversation and relaxation. A bespoke corner sofa, upholstered in sumptuous velvet, creates a generous seating area while making the most of the open-plan layout.
Traditional architectural detailing, including elegant cornicing and wall panelling, adds sophistication and character. Handmade plaster wall lights, crafted in the UK, and a statement chandelier introduce decorative interest and create beautiful pools of light in the evening.
One of the bay windows has been transformed into a luxurious home office, incorporating a large bespoke desk that provides a practical and elegant workspace. The other has been designed into bespoke window seat that offers a peaceful place to sit and enjoy the beautiful valley views.
Bespoke tables, created by local artisans with brushed brass detailing and marble tops, add further layers of craftsmanship and luxury to the room.
Luxury master bedroom interior
The master bedroom was designed as a calm and luxurious sanctuary, combining sumptuous materials with bespoke furniture and intelligent technology.
Every key piece was designed specifically for the room, including the bed, upholstered bench and bespoke headboard. Soft velvet and contemporary bouclé fabrics create a tactile, layered feel, while darker specialist wood veneers add depth and contrast.
A traditionally hand-silvered antique mirror introduces character and reflects light around the room, making the space feel more generous.
The smart home system is discreetly integrated into the bespoke headboard, allowing the clients to operate both the lighting and automatic curtains without leaving the comfort of the bed.
A contemporary chandelier and coordinating wall lights complete the scheme, providing an elegant finishing touch to this sophisticated master bedroom.
Spa-Inspired Luxury En-suite
The en-suite bathroom was transformed into a relaxing, spa-inspired retreat using luxurious materials and contemporary bathroom design.
Large-format Italian porcelain tiles create a sophisticated architectural backdrop, complemented by high-quality brassware and a wall-mounted basin filler for a clean, streamlined finish.
A generous ceiling-mounted shower provides a choice of rainforest-style rainfall or waterfall effects, while a built-in illuminated tiled niche offers practical storage and subtle ambient lighting.
The centrepiece is a sculptural freestanding stone bath, paired with a floor-standing bath filler to create a sense of understated luxury.
Cosy snug design
The snug was designed as a more intimate retreat — a comfortable space for reading, watching television or relaxing beside the fire.
Bespoke built-in cabinetry in a specialist wood veneer provides generous storage and display space for family photographs, while a horizontal electric fire creates a contemporary focal point.
Bronze knurled T-bar handles add a refined decorative detail to the cabinetry. Luxurious tactile wallpaper introduces warmth and texture, complemented by full-length velvet curtains hung from a substantial bronze curtain pole.
Oversized bespoke armchairs with matching footstools, upholstered in soft velvet, create an inviting place to relax. A softly illuminated cornice adds another layer of atmospheric lighting, particularly effective in the evening.

Hillcrest House demonstrates the importance of designing a home as a complete interior rather than as a collection of individual rooms. By maintaining continuity through colour, texture, materials and architectural detailing, each space feels connected while retaining its own identity.
