A much-loved childhood cottage transformed into a light-filled contemporary home.
The Willows is a deeply personal project. Returning to their childhood home after their children had grown up, the client wanted to transform a modest two-bedroom cottage into a comfortable three-bedroom home for a new chapter of life.
Working closely with the architect and builder, Ingrid developed a cohesive interior scheme combining thoughtful spatial planning, natural materials and bespoke craftsmanship.
The result is a contemporary home that retains the character and emotional connection that made the cottage special.
Open-Plan Living & Natural Light
An extension and a reconfigured layout created connected kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Extensive glazing draws daylight into the home, while warm neutrals, natural timber and tactile finishes bring warmth to the clean architectural lines.
Large-format Italian porcelain flooring provides continuity throughout the ground floor, with underfloor heating offering discreet comfort.
A Bespoke Kitchen Designed for Everyday Life
The kitchen combines specialist painted cabinetry with a marble waterfall worktop and solid oak island detailing. An integrated breakfast bar provides an informal place to sit.
Full-height storage, push-to-open fittings and pocket doors keep the design uncluttered, allowing selected kitchen areas to be concealed when not in use.
The kitchen, study cabinetry and oak staircase were handcrafted by a skilled artisan based in nearby Bollington
The Hidden Home Office
Working from home was an important part of the brief. Ingrid incorporated a discreet study within full-height cabinetry, avoiding the need for a separate office.
Large sliding doors conceal the desk, paperwork and equipment at the end of the day, allowing the space to return to a calm setting for relaxation.
A Carefully Considered Entrance
The former garage became a welcoming entrance hall, alongside a utility room and guest WC.
Bespoke metal-framed glazed doors connect the hall with the living spaces beyond, allowing light to travel through the ground floor. A handcrafted oak staircase incorporates storage beneath, while vertical oak slats add texture without closing off the space.
Space-saving pocket doors in the kitchen and guest WC make further use of the available floor area.

Ingrid shaped the interiors around the client’s daily life, balancing openness with the intimate character of the original cottage.
From concealed workspace to bespoke storage and comfortable places to gather, each detail contributes to a home that feels personal, practical and quietly luxurious.
Behind the Transformation
The project involved extending and reconfiguring the original two-bedroom cottage to create a three-bedroom home.
Working alongside the architect and builder, Ingrid brought together the interior layout, bespoke kitchen, study cabinetry, staircase and material palette. The transformation created more usable space while preserving the client’s connection to their childhood home.
