The Vault — Interior Design in Alderley Edge
The Vault is a striking Victorian townhouse in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, transformed by Ingrid from an unloved office into a sophisticated contemporary home.
The brief was to completely remodel the property, creating open-plan living, a private master suite and an atmospheric basement bar and cinema. Limited natural light, historic alterations and a carefully controlled budget required thoughtful spatial planning and interior architecture.
Ingrid’s design respects the character of the original townhouse while introducing contemporary comfort, bespoke craftsmanship and a distinctive sense of luxury.
Open-Plan Living & Bespoke Kitchen Design
The ground floor was redesigned to connect the kitchen, dining and living areas. Wall panelling, tall skirting boards and cornices with concealed lighting restore architectural character, while an oversized arched metal-framed door introduces a contemporary contrast.
A bespoke shaker-style kitchen combines painted cabinetry with marble waterfall worktops and a substantial island breakfast bar. Booth seating responds to the clients’ brief without compromising circulation, while herringbone porcelain flooring and underfloor heating provide continuity and comfort.
Throughout the ground floor, layered lighting and reflective surfaces bring depth to spaces with limited daylight. An antique mirror installation reflects the statement lighting above the basement stairwell, visually expanding the space.
Master Suite & Bespoke Dressing Room
The former top-floor staff kitchen was transformed into a private master suite with a bedroom, dressing room and spacious en-suite.
Dark-stained timber wardrobes, detailed brass handles and an antique-brass chandelier give the dressing room a rich, intimate atmosphere. Bespoke storage makes careful use of the available space.
A Spa-Inspired En-Suite
Large-format Italian porcelain tiles create a calm backdrop for the generous shower area and freestanding bath.
An illuminated shower niche, a floor-standing stone bath, discreet floor lighting and dark brushed bronze brassware bring together practical detailing and a refined finish.
Basement Home Bar & Cinema
A home bar was an essential part of the clients’ brief. Ingrid reconfigured the former basement offices to accommodate a bespoke bar, small cinema room, guest WC and utility room.
Built-in cabinetry maximises storage, while brass, marble, dark finishes and integrated lighting create an intimate setting for entertaining and relaxing.
