Luxury Victorian Interior Design & Renovation in Hale, Greater Manchester
A considered renovation of a distinguished Victorian manor house in Hale, Greater Manchester, combining timeless elegance, bespoke craftsmanship and contemporary functionality.
Working across two phases, Interiors by Ingrid transformed the entrance hall, hallways and staircase before continuing into the utility room, playroom and home study. The design of MULBERRY LODGE carefully balances the architectural character of the original property with the practical requirements of modern family life.

Phase 1:
Entrance Hall, Hallways & Staircase
The entrance hall was elegant in proportion but presented a key challenge: limited natural light and a long, relatively narrow hallway.
The renovation focused on creating a brighter, more welcoming arrival while enhancing the character of the Victorian property. Light finishes, a completely redesigned lighting scheme and large-format porcelain flooring inspired by antique limestone transformed the space.
Architectural details including elegant wall panelling, tall Victorian skirting boards and substantial cornices reinforce the period character throughout the entrance hall, hallways and staircase.
Lighting became a defining feature of the design. Handcrafted bronze wall lights, fine art and a dramatic chandelier featuring 34 cast bronze buds create a warm and sophisticated atmosphere within the panelled entrance hall.
The original stained-glass skylight above the staircase was an important Victorian feature we were determined to preserve. This meant the desired chandelier could not be installed conventionally.
Instead, a bespoke chandelier was designed for the back wall, featuring two rows of 100 handcrafted bronze buds in an organic swooping cluster. Each glass bud was individually handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Lightly foxed antique mirror panelling behind the chandelier adds depth and softly reflects the light. Created using traditional Victorian techniques, the aged mirror brings authenticity and character to the staircase.
The result is a calm and elegant entrance where original Victorian features sit alongside bespoke lighting, refined architectural detailing and carefully curated artwork.
Phase 2: Utility Room, Playroom & Home Study
The second phase focused on creating contemporary, highly functional spaces while maintaining the sophisticated character established throughout the home.
A comprehensive mechanical and electrical package included a new boiler, underfloor heating, air conditioning, alarms and CCTV. Brushed brass ironmongery and light switches introduce subtle luxury and continuity across the rooms.
Bespoke Utility & Boot Room
The former utility room and bathroom were remodelled into one light and airy multifunctional space.
Bespoke cabinetry, manufactured and installed by local artisans, provides dedicated storage for coats, shoes, laundry and household essentials. The result is a practical luxury utility room designed around the needs of modern family life without compromising on aesthetics.
Bespoke Home Study
The home study takes a darker, more atmospheric approach. Dark-stained oak cabinetry and a bespoke desk create a sophisticated backdrop, while personal artwork brings warmth and individuality.
Deep-buttoned armchairs, leather upholstered tables with brass detailing and fine Italian leather accessories complete this refined home office.
A Calm & Playful Children’s Room
The playroom combines a neutral palette, natural materials and generous bespoke storage to create a calm space for family life.
The oak cabinetry was designed specifically with children in mind, with large handles and deep drawers that are easy for small hands to access. Oversized armchairs create a comfortable reading space, while playful animal chairs add personality and can be used as seating, decoration and toys.
Timeless Design for Modern Family Life
Mulberry Lodge demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can respect the character of a period property while meeting the demands of contemporary living.
From the dramatic bespoke staircase lighting and antique mirror panelling to the carefully designed utility room, home study and playroom, every element was considered with both beauty and function in mind.
The finished home is elegant, practical and deeply personal — a refined interpretation of Victorian character for modern family life.
Light. Elegant. Intentional.
