The Upton — Interior Design in Prestbury

A contemporary kitchen, dining and living space designed for entertaining, set within a former farm building in the rolling hills of Prestbury.

Open-plan kitchen and living room with a blue-grey sofa, dark cabinetry and brass accents at The Upton, Prestbury.

The Upton brings together bold colour, minimalist cabinetry and bespoke furnishings in one generous, open-plan interior.

The clients wanted a home where cooking, entertaining and relaxation could happen together. Ingrid developed a coordinated scheme around a statement blue kitchen, a large dining table and comfortable seating, with glazed sliding doors connecting the interior to the gardens and countryside beyond.

A Bold Kitchen Designed for Entertaining

A minimalist, German-made blue kitchen provides the focal point of the space, with a run of full-height cabinets fully recessed and flush with the wall. This creates a clean, contemporary look, allowing the kitchen to become part of the fabric of the house rather than appearing as a separate piece of furniture.

The substantial island incorporates generous seating, allowing guests to gather while the owners cook. Oversized cabinetry pulls and a tap with knurled detailing introduce texture and a touch of glamour against the clean-lined cabinetry.

The layout keeps the kitchen connected to both the dining table and sitting area, making conversation a natural part of preparing and sharing food.

Open-Plan Living & Dining

A large dining table provides space for entertaining within easy reach of the kitchen. Hammered metal pendant lights define the dining area, adding sculptural interest above the table.

A bespoke L-shaped sofa and complementary cushions create a comfortable sitting area, bringing softness and continuity to the scheme. A white, freestanding Scandinavian-style gas stove adds a bold focal point and a cosy evening atmosphere.

Italian porcelain flooring laid in a herringbone pattern connects the kitchen, dining and living areas, with underfloor heating providing discreet comfort throughout.

A wall of glazed sliding doors draws in daylight and frames views across the gardens towards the Prestbury countryside.

A Home Designed Around Its Owners

Ingrid coordinated the layout, furniture proportions, lighting and finishes to give each area a clear purpose without dividing the room.

The result reflects the clients’ enjoyment of entertaining: a personal, contemporary interior with generous places to cook, dine and relax, equally suited to lively gatherings and quiet evenings overlooking the garden.
