Dating from 1848, Carter Manor provided an elegant architectural setting for a minimalist kitchen and dining space.
Ingrid’s design balances the character of this listed Wilmslow property with the owners’ enthusiasm for cooking and entertaining. Clean lines, a white palette and subtle Scandinavian influences create a contemporary interior that allows the original architecture to remain prominent.
A Kitchen Designed Around Cooking & Entertaining
The owners wanted clearly defined kitchen and dining areas with a natural connection between preparation, cooking and conversation.
A generous island forms the centre of the layout, providing workspace and informal seating. Its waterfall worktop and integrated induction hob combine a clean appearance with everyday practicality.
Tall cabinetry sits flush within an architectural surround, creating a balanced composition with neatly integrated appliances and storage.
Refined and Practical Materials
Calacatta quartz was selected for the island and dedicated coffee station, introducing expressive marble-like veining alongside the practicality required in a hardworking kitchen.
Italian wood-effect porcelain flooring, laid in a herringbone pattern, adds warmth and texture. Its matt finish is easy to maintain, while underfloor heating provides discreet comfort.
Together, these materials balance the crisp white cabinetry with a softer, welcoming feel.
Lighting the Original Architecture
Ingrid’s lighting scheme brings the historic and contemporary elements together.
Layered task, ambient and accent lighting supports cooking and dining while highlighting original details, including the distinctive windows.
The space feels bright and functional during the day, with a warmer atmosphere for evening entertaining.
